Job Description

The Life Enrichment Pathway Assistant helps bring our Art of Living WellSM You keep Pathways running when the Host is off, so the program never skips a day. On your days, you lead the group. On busy days, you work side by side with the Host. Either way, the people in the program should feel the same warmth and the same routine.

As Pathways grows past 10 participants, this role may grow to full time

Location: The Kensington

Schedule: Part time, 24/hrs per week, must work 1 weekend day

Pay Range: $21-$23/hr

What You Will Do
Lead the day when the Host is off
  • Lead the Daily Path for a group of up to 10 people, following the Host's weekly plan.
  • Set up each room before the group arrives and put it back after.
  • Walk participants to and from their apartments and between rooms. Know where every person is at all times.
  • Host the Pathways Table at lunch: help with menus, good conversation, and making sure everyone eats.
Support the Host
  • Help lead the busiest parts of the day, like Move, Kitchen Studio, and outings.
  • Help set up supplies, decorations, and materials for themes and events.
  • Share what you notice about each person so the Host can update their profile.
Watch, write, and tell
  • Notice changes in mood, eating, walking, or memory. Tell Care Services the same shift, and right away if it is urgent.
  • Write the daily note for each participant on your days.
  • Pass anything important to the Host before your shift ends.
  • You are a mandated reporter. Report any sign of abuse or neglect right away, following Kisco policy and California law.
Be part of the team
  • Use the dementia care skills we train you in to redirect gently and keep the mood calm.
  • Be friendly and helpful with families who stop by, and pass their questions to the Host.
  • Attend Daily Line Up on your days and Pathways team meetings.
What You Bring
Must have
  • At least 1 year working with older adults, such as activities, caregiving, adult day, or volunteering.
  • Comfort leading a small group on your own.
  • High school diploma or equal.
  • Good enough written English for short daily notes. Basic computer skills for email and online training.
  • Weekend availability.
  • Must clear a California Department of Justice and FBI background check (Live Scan) and pass a health screening with a TB test before starting.
Nice to have
  • Experience with people living with memory loss.
  • Activity assistant, caregiver, or recreation therapy student background.
  • CPR and First Aid.
  • A second language.
Training We Give You
  • California dementia care training for assisted living staff: 12 hours, with 6 hours done before you work alone and all 12 done within your first four weeks, then 8 hours every year.
  • Kisco Pathways training calls on Montessori, Validation, Hand Under Hand, behavioral expressions, and physical approach.
  • Kisco's Heirloom training library, done in Relias.
  • Montessori certification training with a Kisco trainer, after the Host.
  • Four weeks of hands-on training at The Kensington before the program opens.
Who Does Well Here
You are patient, kind, and organized. You are happy to follow a plan and brave enough to lead the room when it is your day. You can say the same thing for the fifth time with the same smile.
Physical Demands
  • Stand and walk for most of the shift, indoors and outdoors.
  • Lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Push a wheelchair.
  • Bend, kneel, and reach to set up tables, supplies, and activities.
  • Help a participant stand or steady themselves using safe, trained methods.
